Thor Dulay, The Master of Soul, perfectionist in music

The vocal coach and former back-up singer is now ready to take center stage as he serenades his fans on his upcoming concert-  The Soulful Concert in Music Museum on July 17, 2015.

In an interview with Chisms, Thor shows his excitement to his first major concert which is produced by The Aqueous Events Management and Cornerstone Talent Management Center.

“Expect the unexpected”, Thor conceited.

 “May makikita silang mga hindi pa nakikita sa mga previous concert,baka sumayaw ako.”

“Yung mga songs na gagamitin sa concert (ay) everyday ko na pinapakinggan, siguro mga 80% ay memorize ko na ngayon”

Thor also shared his preparations for the upcoming concert.

“Ang paghahanda ko rito ay ano …ensayo ...ensayo at kinakanta ko parati yung mga songs sa concert ...and listening din ng mga magagandang music para may magandang choices pa na idagdag sa concert”

Thor admitted that he is perfectionist when it comes to music; he is really hands-on in selecting songs that will be played on the concert and even arranged it on his own.

“Dati kasi may kaba pa rin, pero ngayon ay excited ako kasi sobrang hands-on ako na talagang halos lahat ng song ay ako ang pumili “

“Tapos ako rin ang nag-arranged ng mga songs, tapos ako rin ang gumawa ng back-up... so talagang itong concert na ito ay Thor talaga na halos input ko.”

Meanwhile, Thor said he doesn’t feel any pressure even if he is now labelled as the Master of Soul and he is also ready for critics.

“Ready ....ready na ako at makikita nila sa concert ko (na deserved ko ang Master of Soul)  at pati sa guesting’s ko ay bigay todo talaga kasi comfortable ako sa genre na soul,  kasi ever since naman ay soul na talaga ang aking pinapakinggan”

Thor on voice coaching Bimby: he can sing

During the The Voice of the Philippines competition, Thor was recognized as the back-up singer of Vice Ganda on his show Gandang Gabi Vice.

He is also coaching artists like Bimby (James Yap Jr.) in which he said that Bimby can sing.

Though Thor is now on the spotlight, he will never forsake his past job as back-up singer and voice coach.

“Sa totoo lang, love na love ko ang pagiging back-up singer”

“Nalulungkot nga ako nuong kailangan ko ng umalis sa GGV kasi nag-eenjoy talaga ako, kaya lang may plano ang manager ko for me, masunurin naman akong talent kaya susundin ko muna, pero if may chance why not, masaya maging back-up”.

 “Kahit saan ako ilagay basta may music ay masaya ako”

Thor was offended by a female artist

Thor reminisces the days when he experienced “pagtataray” of a female artist.

 “Di ko na sasabihin (kung sino siya), pero siguro dahil ayaw ko mag judge baka mainit ulo niya that time at hanggang ngayon ay hindi pa kami nagkita mula nuon”.

“Siguro ay may problema siya ng time na ‘yun, pero na-offend ako, pag lumapit ako sa kanya para magtanong kung handa na siya para kumanta ang sasabihin lang “mamaya” ganun lagi one world lang”.

“Na-offend ako, pero hindi ko ginawang big deal kasi sa industriya na ito ay kailangan strong ka at hindi yung fragile na konting insulto ay magmumukmok ka na”.

Thor can’t sing songs related to mothers, why?

“Di ko kaya never ako kumanta ng pang mama... sa church nga pinapakanta ako about mom pero diko kaya”.

“Namatay siya 2010 pero di ko pa rin kaya kumanta talaga na songs for mama”
He was emotional when we talked about his mother in which he said it was the worst part of his life.”

“Naiiyak tuloy ako”

“for sure manunuod siya, sana proud siya kasi eversince naman proud siya sa akin”
“sana lang naabutan niya yung nasa stage na ako at nagcoconcert, pero sobrang masaya yun for sure”

The Soulful Concert

On July 17, The Master of Soul will showcase his music in the Music Museum, with special guests Kz Tandingan and Liezel Garcia.
